Eye bubbles

It is kind of interesting about eye bubbles—I have never been able to find information on what causes them in birds. Is it a pressure change in the eye? Is is the secretions in the eye when there is damage or infection—maybe? It would be good to have someone explain it to me. My husband and I both are in the medical field, and neither one of us know.

Well, injecting Tylan would work faster, but if oral antibiotics are absorbed well, they should be just as good. I am not a vet, but have experience with medications.

I checked everyone over good last night. No eye bubbles, no respiratory distress, coughing or heavy breathing. I didn't know an injury could cause their eye to foam up like that, but I think that almost had to be it? Would you most likely see another issue other than the eye?

I wouldn’t cull her especially if she has been a part of your flock. MG is pretty much everywhere, kind of like Mareks disease. MG is a common bacteria found in a lot of the reproductive disorders, such as salpingitis and internal laying.

As @dawg53 said, it might be something in the eye or an injury that has caused the bubbles. There was someone the other day on here whose chicken had been attacked and pecked, and the chicken had eye bubbles in one eye.

I would get some Terramycin eye ointment and treat it. If it doesn’t improve, then I would use Tylan 50 injectable, but give it orally. It is a cattle medicine at most feed stores. You could do both now if you wish. Dosage is 1/4 ml per pound given orally 3 times a day.

i have the same thing in one of my EEs, she has bubbly eyes and she is sneezing so i think it could be MG but i gave her vetrx because the stores weren’t open, will that work or not, here eyes seem to be clearing up for the night
