Looking for advice about an eye injury that my sweet little Hen just recieved. She was new to the flock and after all the usual precautions were taken before introducing her to the rest of the family, things went great untill 2 days ago when my huge rooster decided that he didn't want her around and attacked her and of course he went straight for the eyes! I have cooped her up to keep her safe but I'm really worried about the eye being infected. She will be blind I know but is there anything I can put on it or flush it with to help? Thanks!
You could flush it with a saline eye solution to clean it out and then put a triple antibiotic eye ointment in it to prevent infection. Make sure it's some that doesn't have a steroid in it so if the cornea is scratched it doesn't make it worse.
Betadine solution diluted to look like very weak tea with the saline can also be used but do not use anything with Nolvasan/clorihexidine in it around the eyes.
Hope she's doing better soon!
You can flush with saline or a human eye wash that has boric acid in it. You can then put some neosporin or terrimicyn eye ointment in the eye. Either will help.
