Hi All,
My beautiful chicken Zeb flew into our fence a few days ago. Very flighty little chicken!! I noticed she was pretty flat the rest of that day so I thought she must have stunned herself. However today I have noticed that her eye is closed over and looks quite red. She is eating and drinking but sitting a lot (obviously cautious of moving around to much with limited vision). Any advice? Should I try to bath it or does she just have the equivalent of a human 'black eye'. Pic attached.

There are a few reasons why chickens develop eye problems. Here is some information for you:

If your chicken will let you, get your hands on her and examine her closely. You can flush the eye out with any eye solution from a drug store. You can apply terramycin ointment to the eye 2 x a day for 7 days.

This is a cheap eye flush:

Be sure to wash your hands after handling her and make sure she is not being bullied by the other chickens.

Good luck with her. I hope she does well.
