I have a few young pullets that each have one eye swollen shut. When dh forced the lid open, he found this white thing covering the eyeball. He worked it out and it's gross. It's semi hard and it's over the eye. Has anyone else ever seen or heard of this. We washed the eyes out with a weak saltwater solution but I've had one pullet like this for over 2 weeks. So far it's only been one eye and she is still eating and drinking fine.

cull it!!!! i know it might be hard but what if it is a virus and infects the rest of your birds then your screwed good luck and come and join ultimate fowl . com

Had the same thing last year on a few birds. I gave auremycin in water and put a gentimycin ointment into the eyes after getting as much of the hard guck out as possible. 1 hen lost sight in her eye, all others did fine. I have used neosporin in the past when I didn't have eye ointment. If possible put the ointment in at least twice a day. It helps keep the eye moist as well as medicating it.
