Eye swollen shut on pullet

View attachment 1948280
This pullet has had an issue with her eyes off & on for over a month. She would walk around foraging with one eye shut for long periods of times, not always the same eye. She wasn't having any swelling in it until the last few days. I've tried eye drops/rinse, don't see any pus in it, just looks like the "pink-eye" like cocker spaniels get. She can't open it anymore due to the swelling, and it was completely crushed shut today. I got some Vetrycin Eye Gel today & applied it in & on the eye. Is there anything else that I can do for her that might help?

Y'all ever use this for MG, or know anyone that did? Were they successful in saving their flocks? I'm afraid I'm gonna hafta just cull them all & start from scratch, or just give up all together.

Has there been any signs of watery eye or eye bubbles befor the swelling? Is ther any sneeze or cough, gasping, or crackles or wheezes while breathing? I would try an oral antibiotic, such as tylosin (Tylan,) oxytetracycline, doxycycline, or Denagard. This one can be put into the water 1 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days, and that can treat for MG, a chronic respiratory disease:

POST 3 of your thread, @Eggcessive recommended using Tylosin. That is what I would use to treat MG.
Sorry that you are dealing with all this, it does sound like you are dealing with an illness that is spreading. I would only treat birds that are symptomatic.

DO NOT GIVE UP! We learn from every experience. You will, too and will be a better "chicken tender" for it. And because you're sharing this tough part of your journey with the rest of us ... so will we!

I’m not sure why you would use spiromycin at this point. I am not familiar with it, but it says online that is an experimental drug used in the US, but more common in other countries. Tylan or tylosin is available online from Jedds, and in stock today, but they do run out often. But it is up to you.

I'm gonna get some antibiotics, and get those started asap. It just hit me that it was gonna be an epidemic if I didn't snap to it! I appreciate everyone's input, 100%!:highfive:

I had read the article that reported better results with its use, but I don't know what I'm doing anyway, it's all trial & error with me. Jedds has both of those antibiotics, so I thought I might would try it. That's why I was asking if anyone had an experience with its use. I'm ordering antibiotics today, hopefully they'll get here asap, so I can get this hurdle behind me. I appreciate all the advice & recommendations, truly.

So don't put it in the general population waterer, just isolated birds? I have about 70 birds altogether.

Yes, I would separate and only treat sick birds who show symptoms. It will save a lot of money on medication, and healthy birds may fight off the infection which is what you want to happen.
Gotcha, I'm gonna get an outside pen or two thrown together for the group then. Hopefully Jedds has fast shipping! Thanks again, I'll keep everyone posted on progress as well.

UPDATE:
One of the sick chicks died this evening. The older pullet with the eye swelling is still eating & drinking and poops are formed/normal. She is not energetic though by any means. I was able to get some new collection of pus out of her eye this evening, not as much there as yesterday. I'm waiting on the antibiotics to arrive to start her on them. I'm hoping she will make it.
