Eyelid Puncture

My silkie hen has gotten a sharp piece of plant poked through her lower eyelid. The entire area is swollen and the plant piece is still rubbing against her eye. I'd rather not take her to the vet but am in great need of suggestions as how to treat her. Thanks so much!

Remove the plant piece or it will serve as a constant irritant. Go to a pet supply store and get some opthalmic ointment to treat the eye. If you act rapidly infection will not set in and the healing will be uneventful.
