Eyes closed in the afternoon?

I do not think my little hen is going to make it. She wanted out of her dog crate to go for a walk and you know what that rooster did. She just collapsed. I put her back in the dog crate, gave her an injection of liquamycin the correct dose, but she has barely any muscle left, she eats a little scrambled egg, no layena, was drinking water yesterday but not drinking enough. After the shot I put some sugar and rooster booster in her water dish, got kids syringe and got about 4 ml of the water mix into her. Will see if she makes it thru the night.

@SmiYa0126 ,yes and my calcium citrate contains magnesium and zinc. I suspect they are part of the problem.

I didn't realize this til I looked at her poop today and it's white with some green and she's not getting grass. So I bought calcium carbonate capsules with vitamin E a few minutes ago and gave her one, got a bite of egg into her. Magnesium gives me diarrhea - and zinc can be too much of a good thing. so we will see how she does, she's light, she's chattering, and I'm probably going to go syringe some water into her mouth in a little while.

Good catch! @Gypsi

The calcium citrate here doesn't have magnesium in it.

She was barely alive this morning. I'll go out and bury her later. The magnesium and zinc aren't what made her sick to begin with. It may have been alienation from the flock and consistent less food over a period of time, or a congenital defect. I should have been more aware of flock dynamics and set up multiple feeding stations earlier. The magnesium and zinc certainly did not help at the end, but she's out of pain or will be soon.

I'm so sorry, sending warm hugs to you!

She sickened and was probably close to death when I discovered she was sick 3 weeks ago. I only had one feeding station set up and she might have been underfed for months and I would not have known it. Now I have 2, the lavender americaunas who weren't laying also got a couple of calcium citrates and scrambled eggs a couple days, and are benefiting from 2 additional feeding stations, and are now laying. I'll keep a closer eye. Still good to know that too much magnesium isn't a good thing - and that is the ingredient in epsom salts, btw. so I learned something. I kept 3 of her small beautiful feathers.

Epsom salts are absorbed through the skin, they don't have a laxative effect like the otal tablets. That's the only way I take magnesium for that reason.... Who wants the runs? 😂
