"Oh okay, good!" Cloud replied after recovering from her shock. Than she glanced around and replied, "I better go, Blaze was expecting me." She said, with a slight touch of her beak to Caves comb. Then she fluttered down from the branch.
"O-ok!" Cave clucked back. After Cloud flew down, Cave flapped her wings and started daydreaming about dust bathing.

Rose thought about this, then sudden curiosity made her speak up, "Who do you think the father would be?"
Eerie’s comb flushed red. “I-I hadn’t given it much thought.” But she couldn’t stop herself from glancing back at Toad. He was quite the specimen, she thought, and kind too. He’d make a good father. Ruffling her feathers, she turned back to her friends. “Have any suggestions?” She asked, eyes twinkling with good humor.

Cloud searched through the trees and thickets until she glimpsed golden feathers behind a bush. Cloud snuck around the bush and leaped over Blaze's head and spun around to confront him. He clucked in surprise, amusement glittering in his orange eyes. He flapped his wings playfully and and did a little twirl in the air. She giggled, as she watched him stumble and fall on his side. Then he got up and shook out his feathers, his beautiful golden hackles glowing in the sunshine. "I could have died!" He gasped playfully. She giggled and snuggled into his golden chest.

Rose caught Eerie glance at Toad. She giggled silently to herself and said, "I would do him."She said pointing her beak at Toad. He was pecking at some grass, showing a few young pullets some new seedlings.

Eerie pretended she had no idea what Rose was talking about. “Him? Oh, surely not. He’s…he…” she tried to find something bad to say about Toad but found herself drawing a blank. “Alright, maybe him. But really, I wasn’t going to raise chicks very soon. Plus, surely he doesn’t notice a hen like me.” She preened her feathers self-consciously. Her own feathers were so boring. Both Rose and Fern had such richly colored, beautiful feathers.

Jay awoke from a troubled dose. She kept on seeing Doe's terrified form being lifted in the sky, each time Jay tried something different to save her, but it was useless. She could still hear her screams when she rose and left her burrow. Outside she saw her flock. They were all scattered in the clearing either in groups grieving, dust bathing, or sun bathing. She saw Toad pecking at some grass on one side of the clearing and saw Rose, Fern, and Eerie chatting. She wasn't interested in their conversation, so she walked across the clearing. She stopped and looked down at some feathers. They were Doe's. she made a small sob of grief and walked towards the side of the clearing. But thats when she saw the bright smear of blood on the grass.

"Maybe you should go talk to him?" She suggested.
