Frill stood eyes locked with the creature, frills raised and lips pulled back in a snarl. It stared back, it's small silver eyes gleaming in the half light of the forest. It stood only as tall as she, but it was long and snaked out behind. She had been near the water when it came from behind, she turned to see what it was and it slide into the woods. It did not hide in fear, it hid in ambush. It's coils lay behind it, curled like springs. Frill had seen the glint of gold in the forest, she knew to some extent what lay in the shadows, just not how to escape.

It struck, coils wrapping around her in golden spirals. Frill bit down on the closest one in reach and thing's head swiped around, it's fish like snout opening to reveal rows of small pointy teeth. She pulled sideways in an attempt to rip it off.
