This is so hard to capture. My BJG go irridesent green/blue, but my Black Sumatra goes purple, catching him in particular in the right light and at the right time for a shot feels like I'm on a safari.

Yes. I do have to say I got a little lucky with the perfect lighting! It turned out to be a pretty picture.
I often get upset since most pictures I take don’t quite capture the beauty of the bird, as you normally see when you are just watching them yourself.
As @Ponypoor suggested, cloud cover will help when trying to catch the sheen coming off of the feathers (you know what you’re doing)! I especially like taking photos in the shade when it’s sunny, so that it’s brighter but you can still catch the sheen coming off without the picture being too bright.
In my case with this picture, it was sunny outside and it was coming through the windows but the sunlight wasn’t hitting him directly, resulting in the sheen coming out more strongly.

I love black birds, especially since most have different sheens. I like the purple ones best, but they are harder to come by.
Sumatras are beautiful!

I believe he is an Ameraucana mix of some kind. He looks pretty close to being a full Ameraucana, but I don't think that is the case especially since I got him from someone who hatched him from a local farmers flock. They weren't sure what breed he was.
They are iridescent black feathers. He is actually similar to a Red Breasted Black pattern but has added colors here and there, such as the gold that shows in certain lighting in his hackles.
