While I certainly have an opinion on the matter I fail to see what this has to do with backyard chickens. Isn’t this most likely to devolve into angry rants and each person digging their heels into their position? Seems quite a rare thing that virtual reality becomes conducive to healthy conversation around values based arguments

That's why it is in Random Ramblings. Off topic discussions. You will notice a Coronavirus thread exists here as well. I think it's best not to focus on arguments and rather blowing off steam. I value everyone's opinion. I'll make a poll too.

Here are my two cents on the face mask drama.

I believe that it is in the best interest of people everywhere to wear a mask. The government is trying to control us, into protecting the common good. Into protecting the public, as a good government should. I believe masks should be mandatory everywhere all the time, as we have a very deadly disease going around like people what do you think COVID-19 is? It’s not a new brand of soda, I can tell you that for sure. We should be trying to do our bests to protect everyone, and not be complaining online about wearing a mask for five minutes. If you can’t wear a mask, or just feel you are above everyone else, stay home. Just stay home. No one wants to get sick because you feel like you have the rights to put others in danger. And the government gave you those civil rights, they can take them away. What do you think prisons are for?


I don’t mean to offend anyone. That was just my personal opinion on the subject, and if you feel you are above everyone who has died because of this virus, I could care less about you. This is serious, it’s not just some fad that’ll pass if we ignore it enough.

You should wear a mask to protect others, it is the decent thing to do. With almost 150,000 dead in this country I cannot understand why anyone would not WANT to wear a mask. This is not political, it is about public health.

This is how I’ve been greeting people at work. Though I don’t wear it for very long cause 1. Can’t see and 2. Latex masks get very hot and yep. These ones are hard to breathe in lol. Don’t worry, I’ve got a normal mask on under there (thanks old navy!)

Just because it exists doesn’t mean there is value in pursuing it. I’m sure there are lots of great things on Random Ramblings threads but this can be found in any dumpster fire social media app, why do we need to talk about it here? I’d rather not have steam blown in my face everywhere I go. Sure you can say if you don’t like it don’t look at it but it comes up in my feed and it’s another source of stress that really doesn’t need to be brought here

Because we have a deadly virus going around that’ll probably kill us and everyone we know if we don’t listen. Like seriously, it’s a virus. The government just wants everyone to be safe during these times, and people complaining about having to do something everyone else chooses to do because they are decent people (unlike the entitled ones), isn’t helping.

It is in your face everywhere you go. That's why I'm mad. I didnt want that either. Now it is a requirement. I understand how you feel and I'm not invalidating you in any way. Just because it comes up in your feed does not mean you have to click on it. Just select "ignore thread".

I know businesses reserve the right to refuse service to anyone as long as they are not discriminating against them. Id just like to be like "look, I'm wearing the mask. Nobody said it had to cover my mouth and nose"

Actually, I've seen stores that say exactly that. Sometimes it's on a sign. It's often on their website too. For example:
"all Costco members and guests must wear a face covering that covers their mouth and nose at all times while at Costco. This requirement does not apply to children under the age of 2 or to individuals who are unable to wear a face covering due to a medical condition."

That's pretty clear. Which makes my choices clear too: wear a mask, or don't go in that store (or other business.) I could stay home, order online, use curbside pickup, do without--or just cover my face, as requested.
