I had 16 Araucana eggs (my stock, not shipped) that went into lockdown on Tuesday. This was technically 12 hours before the 18 day mark. I did that because it was dark and I wanted to candle as I locked down. Prior to lockdown, I had kept the incubator humidity around 35%, with occasional dips down to 30%. With my first hatch I kept the humidity around 50% (per instructions that came with the incubator) and going into lockdown my air cells were WAY too small. I blamed my 28% hatch rate on too high humidity during those first 18 days. Hence my decreasing humidity this time around.

During lockdown I upped the humidity to 65%. No pips, no peeps, so late last night I candled each and every egg. NO signs of life whatsoever!! I know these aren't the greatest pictures, but hoping maybe it could shed a little light on what happened.

I opened most the eggs, and the most consistent problem I noted was the majority had not even pipped internally... if that helps. What could have killed these chicks during lockdown?

Is it possibly the double dose of the tufted gene that's lethal and causes low hatch rates for the Araucana breed?

Last guess would be maybe a temp spike that went undetected or thermometer that went out of calibration.

What day were these candle pics taken on? They are very dry.

How old were the eggs when you sat them? Did you have a turner and did it quit on you?

What is parent stock regular feed including treats and supplements?

12 hour early lock down *should* have zero impact.

Hope you find some answers! :fl

Only 3 of the 16 eggs were tufted x tufted bred, so other than those 3, no.

I took those last night at day 22, closer to 23. Could humidity have been too low during the first 18 days?

The oldest egg was 7 or 8 days old. They were in a turner, and it seemed to function just fine.

The eggs were from 3 separate flocks each having free choice of Purena Flock Raiser. All flocks get a handful (literally) of scratch/mealworms in the a.m., and 2 of the 3 flocks free range in the evenings.

I didn't think so, but wanted to add that!
Hope you find some answers! :fl
