For Those Of Us Who Ship Live Birds This A Public Service Announcement. In The Past We Were Able To Tape Up To 3 Horizon Boxes Togather And Ship As 1 Unit... No More! According To The Post Office A New Reg Went Into Effect 1st Of This Month As I Was Told This Morning When I Tried To Send 2 Boxes Taped Togather As 1 Unit... From Fenceforth On, All Horizon Type Containers Are To Be Shipped As Single Units (1 Box Only) While You May Ship As Many As You Wish As Often As You Wish They Must All Be Mailed Individually. Sooooooooo If You Ship Live Birds Be Prepared For This.

I Had To Cut The Taped Untis Apart And Mail As Individual Units.

Obviously This Only Applies To Shipments Where More Than 1 Box Is Needed. And While I Have Not Seen This In Print Thats What They Made Me Do This Morning??

Thanks for telling us, I was about to do this. Oh well I guess I'll have to use separate boxes.

Now I Have Not Seen It In Print, This Was Simply What I Was Told At The Po This Morning Shipping Birds... Me And 1 Of The Pigeon Club Guys Behind Me.. I Personally Think Its A Way To Increase Revenue But What Do I Know? And No This Isnt A Little Poe Dunk Po... I Was Told It Was New Regs Effective 2/1/11 And Done Because Of Boxes Getting Seperated In The Mail??? I Dont Use Hack Job Tape Either, These Were Quite Firmly Taped Togather With The White Fiber Reinforced Shipping Tape Not The Thin Clear Stuff... I Can Also Assure You It Was Gawd-awful Expensive... At Least 4x's The Birds' Value... Each Package

I could see them doing that ,if people didn't tape the boxes good, heck i even mark address on both boxes ,just in case, but sure mine were tape super good.

Its does suck...i will not be shippng many anyway ,as soon as i get rid of my last few birds.
not for that reason, but fighting this cancer crap, ready cut down on me raising and selling birds.

I agree, I am sure it is more a revenue booster than anything else. I too tape boxes really well, in addition - I also put a couple of heavy zip ties on the inside center wall of the boxes joining the boxes solidly AND I create a new rope handle going through both boxes to make it easier for the P.O. to carry! A lot of time and effort on my part, but I always felt confident that the boxes would arrive in the same shape as they left here.

Not that the P.O. takes the same care in bringing me packages! I have received crushed eggs several times and even a live shipment with one end crushed and dead quail.

I usually ship a pair of buttons or 5 coturnix here and there so I use a box. But that is annoying if you can't tape boxes together. THat means you have to buy the bigger boxes which will in turn make shipping horrendous. BLLLLAAAAHHHH ;?

The USPS is slowly phasing out. Less people are mailing letters, and less shipments due to the economy. They are just trying to scrape up every single penny they can before cooperate shuts down a ton of them. Thank goodness I live next to the regional branch. At least I won't have to drive 30 minutes to mail a package like some people will after they shut down all of those branches...
