There are so few who do believe...

Here's a few pics of the huge old tree that fell - so big you can stand in the trunk. It already has little mushrooms growing it. Thank you all so much for the ideas - my mind is going crazy with them now. I know I can add onto this project for years to come and those grandkids that I don't have yet will have something to look forward to on each visit - to check and see if there is a new fairy house.

This will be so much neater than having it bulldozed down.

So glad I stumbled upon this thread. My DH built a fairy door to fit in front of a small hollowed out place in the 150 year old oak tree in my backyard. The doors open up to show the hole inside. I had all these grand plans to decorate the inside and got sidetracked. Now I have to get back to work on it. What an inspiration this has been.

I leave water out for the faeries, The Little People, spirits and the Earth Mother. On holidays and feast type events, the first plate of food is prepared and goes outside for the spirits of the animals, our ancestors and the plant beings.

Funny thing...sometimes it is all gone, sometimes partially and sometimes it is not touched. So, they eat and drink what the need.

Here are some great ideas for faery gardens and such:

Great thread!! We have faerie rings all over our yard- and we call our bog the "Enchanted Forest" because it is inhabited by gnomes, elves and faeries

It is a magical, wonderful lush place filled with ladyslipper orchids and moss. We love it!!!!

Hello Well

I will be making one tommorow. We dont have a garden, but we have a table full of pot plants. will that work? I am taking a sturdy box and molding mud onto it and sticking on stuff. A question is, will they come, and how do i know if they have/will?

And woah, only after about 24 hrs 3 pages!!! GO BYC!!!

This is a very interesting thread. I honestly never even thought about Fairies or gnomes as being real. I never heard of those fairy doors. Very cute!!!! Hmmmmmm now i'm on a hunt for some fairy rings!

Thank you. We bought it last Christmas and it hasn't been lived in for 15 years so the grounds and gardens and inside and outside of the home all need lots of work. We've barely begun to tackle it all and then Gustav comes and knocks down three huge old oaks, flattening the picket fences and gardens. I was so disappointed till I found this thread - now I'm so excited because I can create something out of the havoc. If you look into the caverns of the trunk, you can already see fairy houses.

It's almost as if I was supposed to find this thread because when I told the workers to leave the trunk and fallen part of the tree they and my husband thought I was nuts. "I'm going to do something with it" was all I could say. Didn't know what till now.

When I was about 5 I made a few fairy houses. I still like such things. About 20 years ago now I took a vacation to Greer Arizona and gathered lots of things to make little houses as gifts for the holidays that year. Here are some pictures of a couple of them I kept for myself. I made over 30 of these one year.

Here is how I made them for gifts that year, I put them in a wreath.

Then as part of the gifts I made up a poem to go with the cottages.

Here is the poem.

The Fairylands

I made a journey all alone
Far away from my desert home

In the forest where
the tall trees stand
There I found the Fairylands

I gathered moss, flowers and seeds
I even fell down and skinned my knees

The beauty here I wanted to share
with the ones I love
In the real world back there

These little cottages are made
with my own two hands
In hopes that you too can see
the Fairylands.
