Fake Eggs???

Yes, it works. My hens now refuse to lay in nests without fake eggs!
I have wooden eggs in my nests, and two of my four pullets are laying in those now. But it struck me..............the first one to lay an egg had never seen another hen lay an egg before. So how did she know what that wooden egg represented?

Is that a genetic thing? I want to remove the wooden ones now that two girls are laying, but hubby wants to leave them until all four are laying. I think that will be soon because Daisy now squats when hubby enters their run with treats for them! Her little comb is getting redder, and I've noticed her (via spy camera) staring intently at the nest boxes.

So I should soon have a large dark, chocolate brown egg!

Yes, hens naturally know what an egg is and feel safe laying where other eggs are.
