Fake smiles in photographs

I admit to having the worst fake smile in the world. I'm still working on it. I used to want pictures of myself, but now I'm getting better at when I see a camera. The trick is to be the one taking the pictures.

If you want to see a genuine smile just look at me after winning in court to some deadbeat as he pays me.

I suppose it would depend on the individual. If it were me - and you were standing behind me in line, it would be more of a smile than a smirk...because I think I'd genuinely enjoy making you wait.

"Oh, I'm sorry - could you add some cinnamon?" "You know - let me order another for later...."

Me, personally, or just whoever was behind you?

Very few people want to take photos of me, lol. Most of the time if my picture is taken and it's appropriate to smile, I do because that's what you're supposed to do with posed photos.

I think a lot of kids learn the auto-smile because their parents are ALWAYS taking their pictures. At least my grandkids just turn it on at will. I used to take pics and would wait forever with the lens focused to capture the instant their eyes really lit up. They'd get tired of "posing" and just go about their business and i'd get great photos. I find the new digital cameras are greatly lacking in their ability to capture the instant that I want. It always seems to get the instant afterwards. Or maybe I haven't spend enough money to get the right kind. You'd think $300 would do it:(
Also interesting to see that those responding about hating their pic taken are mostly us (ahem) mature people. Cultural thing, I think. We figure we aren't worth it. I vote with the gal who wishes there were more pics of mom... and do it for posterity. I try not to see resulting pics of me. That would remind me that I am far from the slim young thing i was many years ago.

You need a camera with a sport setting. 6 frames per second. As a photographer, I'm more of a sniper. Just carry the camera around, with a long enough lens, and you can really get some good pictures.

Southern charm aside.....

What's worse than "fake smiles" are the duck faced bathroom smiles that so many people post on facebook. I can't believe how many bathrooms I've seen.
