There is a fall colors swap starting on the quilted rooster Yahoo Group.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TheQuiltedRooster/

It's not a BYC sanctioned swap. It's a Quilted Rooster swap. The gudelines are as follows:

Fall Colors Swap

1. Chose one block from the following list and e-mail Jody to see if that block is taken yet. She will e-mail you back to let you know. If you want to do a block that is not on the list, just ask about it. It will most likely be approved.

2. Then you will make that one block for each person in the swap including yourself. The final count will be given after the sign up date of June 1, 2009.

3. Use good quality 100% cotton fabric that has been washed and ironed. Please do not use thin low quality fabric.

4. Each block is to be 12.5 unfinished size. NO Exceptions! Do your best work. ¼ in seam allowances are recommended to reduce the bulk when quilting.

5. All blocks are to be made using fall colors. The blocks can be pieced, paper pieced or appliquéd. If appliquéd, the edges must be turned under and sewn down.

6. Send the blocks to Jody along with a SASE so your blocks can be returned. Do not use metered postage on the return envelopes. Use stamps please, otherwise the post office may reject it.

7. Sign up ends June 1, 2009.

8. Blocks are to be made and arrive to Jody no later than August 15, 2009. With this late of a finish date there is no reason to be late. Blocks that arrive after the deadline will be returned unswapped.

Here are the blocks to choose from: Blocks will be assigned on a first come first serve basis. Remember, if you don’t see something you like, just ask. This swap is being done this way so that we don’t get lots of duplicates.

Just a note – People put a lot of time, effort and expense into these quilt blocks. Please be considerate and do your best work. Nobody wants to buy quality fabric and work hard to make blocks and have them traded for low quality fabric or poor workmanship. Many of the blocks on the list are suitable for beginners. Careful measuring, ¼ inch seam allowances and spending time to match seams can make a world of difference in the quality of your finished product. If you are beginner and need help, please ask. Myself and others would be happy to help you with tutorials or advice. I think that all of the patterns for the listed blocks can be found on www.quilterscache.com.

I chose the pinwheel to challenge myself on the piecing. I am comfortable with the applique now and I want to get better with the piecing so I think I will try one of the patterns someone did in the Springtime Swap. I am still working on Christmas gifts too but I am rationalizing this swap as the practice I need, lol..yeah, whatever works right?! so where are all the other busy folks off the forum??? If I can fit this in, others can too!!!......come on now....

Here is the pattern for a 16 inch flying geese. To make it a 12 inch block, you can make it 3 triangles across and 6 down, instead of 4 across and 8 down. There are other variations that can be found also. Do you want that one?

Yes I'll do that one. I just hate to think of fall already but I'm going to start working on them this week and I can save the extra's.
