I can't wait to see everyones blocks too, I have an idea for putting them together into a blanket that would be reversable, pretty, and more durable. But I've never done it, it is just a concept in my head right now. I will get blocks from the summer swap first so I'll work the bugs out and see if it will work in reality as well as it does in my head.

Back to back? It would be very warm. I guess it would work better with consistent blocks and maybe a smaller gauge. I always have projects in my head! After doing these squares, I decided to do a traditional black bordered granny square afghan to use up the TONS of scrap yarn I've accumulated. I thought 5 rounds - approximately 7" squares. I have bins of yarn in the garage to use. I even have the black yarn. (I've been planning to do this for YEARS!) Now if I only had a place to put the yarn while I'm working on the afghan, I'd be all set.

No not back to back. I will try and explain it with words. I may do a picture tutorial if it works out. I am going to take a coordinating color of fabric (I have lots of black so that is likely going to be the color)

My crocheted blocks are 12 inch squares so I am going to cut the fabric in 16 inch squares (maybe a little smaller 14 inches haven't made up my mind yet).

I am going to get either felt or fleece (does not ravel) and cut silloettes or if fleece a specific pretty print (flower, butterfly, leaf, what ever strikes my fancy) and sew that to the one side of the fabric (outside),
then on the inside of the fabric I am going to center the crocheted block right side up, tack it in place, like w/ a yarn tie quilt,

then sew the individual squares together in rows, each square seam will be sewed in a fake french seam, there will be a few inches between crocheted blocks I will join them w/ a chain loop stitch.

When each row is finished I will join the rows in the same way w/ long seams.

Top side will be total crocheted blanket, back side will be squares w/ appliqued felt or fleece center and yarn ties. The fabric will add stabiltiy to the afghan so it won't pull out of shape as much.

That is the plan anyway, it will be more work then just whipp stitching it together into an afghan, but I'm hoping it will be more durable too. And a lot of the work can be done on the machine.

One gallon zip lock bags seem to work well.  Last swap I put a piece of masking tape on and wrote my name on that, but smkchicks just wrote right on the bag w/ a marker and that worked well too.

There was some discussion and worry earlier that some peoples bright color choices might not work well w/ some of the other darker (browner) color choices, so I thought I would post a pic of smkchicks blocks she just sent b/c she skillfully combined both color options in the same blocks and they look wonderful, so no worries about colors not working together.

Those are GORGEOUS blocks!!!

Lord I am tired,

I'm here in AL and have to find a comfortable place to work. Three little kids is more than I can bear at times. The sun was shining yesterday and just stood there and basked like a chicken. I'm definitely a sun person. I suppose it was good I didn't lay out on the lawn and spread my wings like chickens do, but I wanted to.

Anyhow we went to Michaels and got new yarn and used the coupons from AC more too. Yard was on sale so I bought some new needles and a new F hook.

I need my own space and these kids get into everything. Help me Jesus!

Glad you made it safe and sound. I know exactly what you mean about the sun. (and the kids) lol

If you'd have done that, you'd have scared them all to death! Remember the very first time you saw a chicken doing that?

I was wondering. Kassaundra said something a while back that's had me thinking about my blocks. Apparently there is some concern that blocks which are not predominantly orange and brown will not fit in with those that are. No problem there.

What I'm wondering is this... if I had a ring of leaves in those fall colors, would that make the issue go away? I don't want to send in the only blocks that will not be used in the afghans. Don't worry, this will not hurt my feelings. I totally understand. I've been looking at my blocks with that concern since I started. If I need to do different blocks, I can do that after this next payday and my daughter already wants the existing blocks.

So, folks, please let me know.

This is a picture of the leaf ring I'm talking about. If I do a ring of leaves, like this, in autumn oranges, etc., would that make my existing blocks better suited?
