false Americauna?

I think HE"S an Easter Egger

How old is the bird? I can't see the comb very well, but that face seems awful red, the legs are quite thick, and I think I see red coming in on the wing bow. Those are all rooster signs.

Thanks guys! I think when I get my 4-H chicks in the spring, I'm going to order from a hatchery instead. Just wait until I tell my coop carpenter (my dad) that I want another coop to keep the new chickens from breeding with my mutt rooster (not pictured). I would like to have laced wyandottes of all different colors. Nevertheless, I'm happy to have my girls, no matter what genes they carry! Still hoping for those blue eggs though...

Uhh... She looks like a pheonix / OEGB / modern game etc. a game bird.
Not an EE. ESP. The chipmunk stripe screams a type of game.... If 'she' lays a green / blue egg, call me an idiot, or if he throws chicks w/ green / blue egg laying genes, but I def see game more then I see EE (yes, I know EEs change a LOT, but there's an awful lot of game in it and not a lot of ameracauna / aracauna)
Anyways, I'm guessing that's its gonna be a white egg layer, and looks to be bantie depending on age... Did you see the parents or get any other EEs?

No, I didn't see any of the parents. The man had three types of chicks. I wanted mostly RIRs but he ran out of hens so he gave me two so called americaunas. The other was extremely small and died over night. I'm now discovering that my RIRs are not all RIRs either. Yeah... definitely going hatchery next time.

Just thought I would let you know. Hatcheries mislabel easter eggers as ameraucanas and araucanas. And you cant show EEs. Sometimes in 4-H shows will let you get by with it. (but if it were me I just wouldnt do it). Are showing exhibition, meat, or commercial egg layers. (I think those are the only classes thhey have at our local 4-h) Then of course they have exotic and waterfowl.

Consider looking for a reputable local breeder instead of going with a hatchery. Hatchery birds are fine, but knowledgeable breeders will have birds that look much more like the breed they're supposed to be.
