FANS in yer coops/runs?? Whos got em...........

I have fans in both coops...a little one that's on a timer (on around 9PM, off around 1am) in my bantam coop, and one of those swivel fans on a thermocube in my big girl coop. That one comes on at 78, so if they're laying eggs they can get a bit of a breeze.

Since my bantam coop is small, I wall mounted the fan to blow on the roosts. You can see it a little to the right of the door:

I have a box fan in the corner of my open-air coop (all wire walls) that blows cool air from a shaded area through the coop. I have it as much to discourage mosquitoes and gnats at night as to cool the air during the day.

Not really

Honestly, it helps to keep them laying eggs - ours take a break in the summer when it's too hot, not in the winter. Plus ours are often broody now, it's hard on their bodies, so they do better with air conditioning.

No, I haven't--but if we should get a night where the temps in the coop are nasty I will leave the little fan running for air circulation....Last year we had a day of 113 and the fan ran over night............

Here in ms it gets extremely hot and humid so I made my coop as open as possible for airflow. Depending on the humidity I might put a fan on them occasionally but they don't seem to have as big of a problem with this new coop

Nothing remotely nuts about providing fans - you are oh so certifiably sane

. Fans can save their lives. And we've read many a sad story on BYC of birds succumbing to the heat and dying

. I have multiple fans and last summer added AC because it was so stinkin' hot and humid that the weather should have been illegal. I rest much easier while at work knowing they have an escape from the oppressive weather.
