Not really

Honestly, it helps to keep them laying eggs - ours take a break in the summer when it's too hot, not in the winter. Plus ours are often broody now, it's hard on their bodies, so they do better with air conditioning.

You is an A+ chicken mommie for sure!

Nothing remotely nuts about providing fans - you are oh so certifiably sane

. Fans can save their lives. And we've read many a sad story on BYC of birds succumbing to the heat and dying

. I have multiple fans and last summer added AC because it was so stinkin' hot and humid that the weather should have been illegal. I rest much easier while at work knowing they have an escape from the oppressive weather.

THANK YOU jjthink for my sanity certification! I am amazed at how many WONDERFUL chicken parents there are out there.
LOVE the part you wrote about: "the weather should have been illegal".

I added a floor fan (much stronger wind than a box fan) just outside their coop. In the afternoons, I'll go out there and all 12 pullets will be perched on the two chairs getting their heiney's fluffed and the two cockerals will be marching around. I've never seen one of the boys get up there, but if it's really hot, Mr. Feathers will squat down in front of it.

Close up of the girls on the chairs. I originally planned on putting a roost there, but we sit in the chairs when we visit and the girls really seem to like them:

During the day, they have access to the horse stall that's behind that wall. There's a fan in there and it's cooler as the coop gets direct sunlight in the AM. I also have a box fan in the coop. Since I put the fans out, I've noticed a lot less panting and walking around with their wings lifted out.

I have a box fan but they don't see to like it. I have even tried putting it outside. They are not afraid of loud noise as theywill come in the coop if we are doing projects with the skill or sawzall. I dunno.

We have a box fan in the coop. The other day the gnats were extremely bothersome to the Chickie's so we moved the fan outside the run. The Chickie's moved right in front of it, they loved the fan blowing on them. I guess since they were use to the noise of the fan running in the coop they weren't afraid of it.

We have wiring roughed in for a permanent exhaust fan in the coop but haven't found a suitable fan, yet.
