Farm Animal or Pet ?

I just had mine taken away, and we lost the battle to keep them, even with statements saying that some of my neighbors don't have issue with them. I'm not going to fight it, I have so much else on my plate right now, but most towns won't allow it. You can ask and apply for a variance through the town, some places may consider it and let you have them just do your homework to rebut anything they throw at you. Mine didn't change thier mind however and it was a lot more painful to lose them then I thought it would have been. They were our pets. Followed me like my dogs do.

Asian ground parrots . I may just speak with them tell them it is my daughters 4-h project or something maybe win them over with a few heart string pulling.

O my that is horrible ...How did they find out you had the chickens to start with if all your neighbors where ok with it ? You live in town /city limits?

I would ask for a copy of the ordinance or try to find it online. From what I have read in this forum, alot of city & county employees don't really know the rules.

subdivisions are treaky..they can have there own set of rules not related to the city at all..and chickens are livestock as are horses and they have good reason for not allowing them most of the time, you know how some people are, give them a chicken and they bring home a cow..

That maybe the case cause like i said you can have them in city limits but not out of city limits sounds fishy to me.

Chickens are absolutely livestock. If your subdivision has a no livestock rule it's because the majority of the people there at some point felt strongly about the issue. People around the country have tried to fight these kind of restrictions. Mostly they pay lawyers a lot of money & lose anyway.

It would be worth asking your neighbors anyway! We have chickens and are not technically allowed to where we live but our neighbors have been very sweet about it so far.

I will warn that they can be loud...We have one hen that does an ear piercing shriek every time I have to handle her. It's not a quick thing either...she goes on and on and on...

Do you have a privacy fence? I like the idea of mentioning 4-H!

Someone did get away with having chickens where they weren't otherwise allowed by joining 4-h. There are some loop holes that allow raising animals for teaching purposes.
