Do you think a local farm would take them?

I doubt it. Unless they wanted to eat them. It will be a few years until you go to college, right? maybe just get a few chicks this year, then no more. That way they might have all passed by the time you go to college.

Same. It is not that they don't like them it is just that they are getting old. My dad doesn't think he would be able to do it even though he is in great condition now.

You just start building, and it might "accidentally" come out looking exactly like a run.

My dad said I can get more chickens if I can find out what to do with them once they stop laying and I go to college. Any ideas? I don't really want to butcher, I am too close to them.

I think he wants something better than butchering them. Also, doesn't meat from an old chicken taste bad?

I have given away non-laying hens plenty of times. But I have a farmer friend that takes in all. unwanted birds. He has like 30 roosters and some hens. One of the hens is blind, the other only has one wattle, 4 are too old to lay, and one is missing a leg.
He takes good care of them and takes all of my extra birds. He doesn't eat them.

10 but not any good breeds. Well they are good but none of the breeds I really want.
