I didn't get a notification when farm chatter came back. And im late....
I just started using a heat plate this year. First batch I've raised with it. I actually like it a lot, it mimics the underneath the momma hen thing.

I’ve never used anything other than a heat plate, but I never would. It’s awesome. I put the front legs higher than the back so they can come forward if they want to be cooler or farther back if warmer. It lets them find the perfect spot for them.

I’ve always used heat lamps until last year. I can tell you I like it way better, 100% worth it.

-friends: no, but have friends with CLBs that they'll ask
-neighbor lady: no

Are you opposed to letting the boys possibly be eaten? Many have had great luck with Craigslist.

Not opposed to it but my parents would flay me alive if I ran an ad on craigslist without permission.
