Farm chatter

Just saw this thread for the first time!
:O
it's usually so active lol
I visited the family farm in PA yesterday, for the first time in a few years. The farm has been in my family for over 100 years!
That's wonderful!!
It was my great great grandparents, then passed down. I would love to live there and help run it but with my two uncles and three cousins doing it, I would probably just be in the way. They have over 300 head of cattle but milk about 110. Primarily a dairy farm that supplies milk to Land O Lakes for butter and cheese.
That's so cool!!
They have holstein and herefords. They were able to aquire a red holstein cow and got a red calf from her so they are really excited!
Are those fancy cow breeds?
Man, I could talk all day about the farm, we are very proud of it, family farms are a dying breed.
Family farms are so wonderful :love
Here is a picture of the red calf
Awwww!!

I don't know if I would call them fancy cow breeds, just different. Herefords are cool looking though. Red coat and white face

I know absolutely nothing about cows lol
are there even fancy cow breeds like how ayam cemanis and sicilian buttercups are considered fancy chicken breeds?

Oh yes! Depending on where you live, the Texas Longhorn or the Highland are some rare or fancy breeds. There is even a Japanese breed called Wagyu, whose meat can cost $200 a pound! Can you imagine if you bought a steak that cost $200 then burned it on the grill?😂🤣

@TheDawg can you help me ID the breeds of these two doggos that visited today? They got loose from their owner's yard this afternoon and came down the hill and started running around the property. We watched them and posted about them in FB and eventually the owner saw it and picked them up. The one on the right is a hunting dog I think, it was wearing an orange collar. The one on the left is a giant. The biggest dog I've ever seen before. HUGE. View attachment 2646602
I have seen dogs that are 3 feet tall which are usually Great Danes or Irish Wolfhounds. That looks like neither. More like a pointer and a Great Pyrenees.

I mean he wasn’t super tall but he was basically a bear. I have never seen a dog his size. He was enormous. He also wasn’t a Pyrenees because his face was different and so was his fur type.
