My dad said I can get more chickens if I can find out what to do with them once they stop laying and I go to college. Any ideas? I don't really want to butcher, I am too close to them.

I've bought two. Just as pets. And a lot of people buy ex-bats. Or maybe you'll have to just butcher them, or get a friend to do it.

By 'once they stop laying and you go to college' does he mean get rid of any that stop laying before you go to college, or keep any that are laying when you go to college but get rid of non layers?

To save them. And most hens can live a few years after they stop laying.

I think he wants something better than butchering them. Also, doesn't meat from an old chicken taste bad?
