Farm chatter

@U_Stormcrow, I have a question to ask you.
I'm dubbing a rooster to prevent frostbite. He's more vulnerable since his comb, & wattles are thinner.

I wanted to ask if it's illegal to dub a rooster in Michigan? I tried searching, but only found stuff on cockfighting, & not the answer I was looking for.

MI general laws 750.50 (part of the Penal Code re animal confinement and animal cruelty) permits generally accepted animal husbandry practices. http://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(pd...-750-50&query=on&highlight=animal AND cruelty

While your new chicken keeping law ( tge "free range chicken act") specifically rejects normal husbandry as a defense to confinement, the animal cruelty act does not.

it appears dubbing is still recognized as a legitimate husbandry practice in the US, and its not specifically forbidden by MI law. Note its no longer recognized as legit husbandry in Australia, the EU, and a few other places - so if a local authority wants to pick a fight in view of evolving standards...

anyhow, that's my quick opinion.

and since this is the farm chatter thread, today my farm experoenced the birth of two new goats (mutts).
