Lol I am amazed! The only thing that grows here this time of year is pine trees! Nothing will start for another 1-3 months!

I got tulips, hyacinths and dahlias going right now too.

No, and their voices are nice, even if they were vocalising a lot, I don't think it would be annoying.  It's a pleasant tone and pitch, not the "fingernails on the blackboard" screechy sound that some birds have.

Yeah, thinking about it more and watching the video again they seem nice :)

We have one of those poorly behaved parrots here at the farm, he lives in the tack store. The most annoying thing I ever met. He only likes the store manager and will attack anyone and everyone else. He screams all day long, just not a nice guy. :/ But he was also a rescue, and wasn't treated right to begin with. I personally still don't think that the tack store is the right living environment for him.

Oh wow that sucks :( yeah, a lot of rescues it seems are like that. But aw that's kinda bad he attacks people haha like randomly flying at them/attacking or only if you go near him? He doesn't attack customers does he? Seems like a bird like that should be in a nice quiet environment instead of somewhere so busy. They probably think he's lonely and wants attention or something but clearly he hates everyone else so I say he should still get attention, just in a quiet place and only from the people he likes instead of stressing him and all humans out :/

His cage is kept in the office where only staff goes, so our customers are safe from the bird. lol And, the bird is safe from customers, he has his peace. But of course staff goes into the office, and he will bite if you go near him. Luckily, he doesn't seem to realize he can actually fly! lol When he came to us, his wings had been clipped. We let his feathers grow in, but I don't think he has a clue that he could fly if he wanted to. He never leaves his cage or his little "office area" as I like to call it. He has a little nook for his cage, and there's a hole in the wall that was specifically made for him so he can walk through onto the office desk. He has free access in and out of his cage all day long. He either sits on his cage, or he goes on the desk. Sometimes he hangs out in his cage. Tthere's a piece of plexiglass on the desk, so he'll stay on "his side" and can't eat the staff members. LOL In a way, I guess it's a good thing that he doesn't know about his flying abilities, that way he doesn't go charging at people or go explore the tack store.

I don't think this bird has a bad life at all, but I do have a feeling that he would like his own person, I think he would be the happiest that way. I know he's happy in the office because he talks to people and everything. I don't know much about parrots, but I don't really see any obvious signs of stress with him, so that's good. He can just be loud and obnoxious.. Why, I don't know?

My old roommate had 3 parrots, two of them didn't like me one bit, but the third one attached himself to me for God knows what reason. I didn't even want the bird when my roommate first brought him home! lol But he picked me....and he really grew on me, and I actually grew quite fond of him. He was with me most of them time when I was home, I would put him on my shoulder and he just sat there. Or, he would follow me around the house. lol He also picked up on some phrases that I used a lot. I never taught him any words, he just learned things on his own. My favorite was when he learned to say "cool".

Because of his attachment to me, I believe parrots thrive with that one special person. If I'm not mistaken, most parrot breeds usually attach themselves to one, maybe two people, and I think that's probably what our tack store parrot, Nicky, is lacking.

Oh wow well that's definitely good then!! Lol so he's never even tried flying or anything? Wow. Probably for the best though. That's neat he can wander where he wants though.

But aw yeah, it does seem like he has a pretty laid back life but like you said, he probably wants his own person and/or more attention and that could be his problem. That's good he doesn't seem stressed though! Does the screaming usually happen when someone isn't in there? Or is it all the time? Cause a lot of parrots especially rescues learn through previous experience that screaming their heads off will get them attention, negative or positive, that they want, much like kids, so they'll do it when they want attention. And then the owners either give it or go yell at them or whatever and thats still attention. I saw a great article on training them out of it once but of course now I can't remember the site and it's probably a lot of work. But basically it involves extinction principles and training a new behavior. Extinction is really hard because you have to be 100% consistent, even once every hundred times they will try again, same for any animal, but it's really effective. It's just what it sounds like, never ever ever give him attention when he does that. Then once he's better with that or during you'd start rewarding something else. Such as a nice word if he talks or going to get you or whatever instead of SCREAMING lol and the idea is they will do that instead of screaming. But obviously it's hard especially if you're on the phone or dealing with a customer and especially if he's not even your bird to begin with.

How often is his owner there? He needs quality time with them I think. And perhaps more toys? Something to do?? Can they not take him home?

And awww that's awesome!!!! What happened to him? Did your roommate take him?

But yeah, you're absolutely right that most thrive on attention and a bond with their special person!! And yeah, they usually do bond with select people. Or sometimes they will be very friendly as babies then the hormones and teenage phase hits and they're attacking everybody. Also that's another reason why rehoming and rescuing them often has issues. They get very attached and rehoming, especially if it's very often like say getting rehomed only to be returned because of a behavior problem only to be rehomed and returned again, etc., takes a toll on them and the more they're rehomed the more it affects them. So yeah, I definitely think Nicky needs his one person. I know you don't own him but if they don't already, I would try to talk them into coming and visiting Nicky more often and see if they would be willing to take him home. Or at the least buy more toys
