farmers market wish list

chicken stalker ;p :

Solid ice today! All the schools have closed. What a small world, I live just on the opposite side of the Chenango River. I love going to Owego...especially for the Strawberry Festival. It has such a great small town feel and a lot of neat little mom and pop stores.

great ideas keep them coming

Ooooooooh, the Strawberry Festival..... *sigh* Nice warm thoughts on a day as grim as today.

THE BEST thing about farmer's markets in Colorado is the roasted peppers. They cook them right there is these rotating drums. The whole place ends up smelling like roasted peppers....

We sell whole hog sausage, our eggs, our produce, our goat milk soaps at the market.

Very fortunate cause the big Charlotte Regional market has everything. fresh baked, homemade jams, knitters, specialty meats, organic farmer products, etc. etc.

Our market is fab and nothing is missing that I can tell..LOL

"...making grocery totes is a really good idea. I'm a whiz on the sewing machine...I could make all kinds of chicken appearal and kitchen things. I'm thinking of selling eggs (I think I will need more hens to keep up with demand

), blown out craft eggs, may offering fertile hatching eggs and sewing projects. What do you think?"

Contact your market management as soon as possible. They might not allow non food items. OR they might have limits on how many people can make certain things.

I used to be the only person making totes but got busy making other things. Last season, everyone and their brother were trying to sell totes. The market might also be trying to make money selling their own. So, it is best to ask before you buy the fabrics and spend all that sewing time.

If they bawk, tell them that you want to specialize in chicken fabric totes to go with your egg business. That you will mainly be an egg dealer. That might help them look the other way if there is a problem.

My farmers' market wish - A quiet, uneventful year with no bickering.

Our local market has voted to not allow a popular vendor to come back because he keeps buying out of the area to re-sell. We're not looking forward to this confrontation.

We'd really like to be a local produce market but because we have a short growing season, we had allowed him to re-sell as long as the items came from the state. He's been asked for years to please not sell out of state fruit and he gets caught doing it every year. We like him, he has a great personality but he refuses to follow guidelines when all of the other vendors do.

Ah, the politics and hard work that goes on behind the scenes at a successful farmers' market.
