Hello there. I have a year-and-six-months old Sapphire Gem hen. Her feet look like the picture below, and her scales are up, not closed like they should be. Is this normal ? I just want to make sure she’s fine.

Okay . My chickens once had scaly leg mites, so one of them probably carried it.Looks like she has scaly leg mites. They live and burrow under the scales causing them to lift up. Treatment is coating the legs completely in some sort of oil (vaseline, castor oil, etc) in order to suffocate the mites. You need to reapply the oil every few days until the old scales fall off and the new healthy ones come in.
Yes. Both feet are the same. What are the hock joints ?It does look like scaly leg mites, but that might not be the reason for the fat feet. Are both feet the same? Is there any swelling of the hock joints?
