This is my brahma girls second year of laying. Their eggs haven't gotten any longer than what I consider medium length, although someone occasionally pops out a super long egg. However, most of their eggs are getting super fat around. So fat around that they won't sit properly in large-sized egg carton. They also weigh as much as a large egg, around 2 ounces. They're just not as long.

Characteristic of the breed?

I have NO clue, but couldn't let a Gritsar post go unanswered!

Yes Brindle, ouch! I'll try to post some pics of the fat eggs (next to a normal egg) later.
Tuffoldhen has got to be around here somewhere and I know she'd know.

You'll love the brahmas. Just very laid back birds. Where did you order from and what colors?

I have 2 Brahma roos, 1 light and 1 dark, and they are good boys.

This is Burt, #1 roo, and his sister Snow. Snow will be a year at the end of March and hasn't ever laid anything huge.

Sorry, I haven't dealt with Cackle before. My brahmas are from Ideal. Everyone said you can't expect show or breeder quality out of hatchery birds, but I lucked out with my dark brahmas. My roo is nearly perfect and I have two very nice dark hens. All my brahmas are big fat healthy birds, especially my roo Thor. I stopped weighing him when he hit 13 lbs.
