In Johnny Cash's song "When The Man Comes Around" there is a line that sez: "When the father hen calls his chickens home" I thought I heard it wrong, so I listened again. Yep Father hen.

I discussed this with my daughter who happened to be in the car with me when we heard the song.

We came up with this: We think it means the joining of male & female of the Godhead. The anima (female self in the male) and the animus (male self in the female) That God is not Him, God is both.

Ehhhh- I have a headache, what do you all think it means?

I also think it has to do with how the Bible words things, I know Johnny was trying to grasp some spiritual meanings before his death.

It's kinda like the question: Which came first the chicken or the egg???

One of my fav Cash songs for sure....hadn't thought about that line in a while

Hi Lunachick,

This phrase struck me also. I like your anima/animus idea. I also thought that perhaps it was his way of emphasizing the masculinity of God for this particular song, "When the Man Comes Around", rather than switching between strictly male and female terms/metaphors for God. At first I thought "Father Hen" was awkward, but you can also see it as fun and thought-provoking.

Cheers,
