Faverolles Thread

I was sure you were gonna say they were both boys because of the dark color on the wings.
Most girls have a few darker outer wing feathers which can be scary at first. You can only really tell when the upper wing feathers start really coming in.

Quote: Exactly. Both males and females will have salmon and black wing feathers at first. I won't call them one or the other for sure until their shoulder feathers start coming in. :) Even then, I had one cockerel that I was SURE was a pullet until he was almost 12 weeks old, when suddenly he turned into a cockerel! LOL

Wow that must have been a real shock. I am really excited for the cockerels to come back tomorrow! Hope the birds you hatched from Peter and doing well and growing.

Quote: Yeah, I have to say I was much happier that it turned into a boy, rather than being a REALLY dark brown pullet!

It was more interesting than that! Top half typical salmon pullet coloring, but bottom half splash salmon cockerel coloring, and those saddle feathers too.

Yeah didn't do the best job describing it. That was one crazy bird.

It certainly was. I highly doubt it would have ever produced offspring, however it certainly was interesting. Too bad none of us thought to get a picture.
