Faverolles Thread

I've never heard of baycox...do you know if we have it in the US?

I wonder if some vets are using Albon just because that's how they know how to treat it in dogs / cats....

Corid is cheap. There are chicken dosage amounts online. Atwoods in Oklahoma would have. Maybe TSC other parts of the country, a livestock supply type store.

Luckily I haven't had much problem with cocci at all. Never had a bird with it I don't think. Even though I was in humid Maryland. Usually raised my chicks on shavings for 4 weeks and then onto the grass.

Why are people not using Sulmet for cocci? I know TSC does not carry it anymore but a lot of little feed stores will stock it if you ask. I use Sulmet for more than just cocci in my birds. It works pretty well for a number of bacterial issue also.

Quote: I beg to differ. I have had a few in the spring that showed signs of cocci, and I gave them Corid right away and within 24 hours they was doing great. I kept they on it for the recommended 5-7 days for treatment. You can use it as a preventative for 2-3 days once a month. I don't, but it does work very well to treat an overload, which is what is making the chicken sick. I won't ever be without it!
But what it won't do is treat secondary infections, but if you catch it early there really aren't any.

Hello there! I'm new to Faverolles myself, maybe we can learn together! My first SF purchase was a quad, looks like hatchery stock, back in April. They were all I could find locally. Since then, I've been working toward a "better bird" - with the help of people here on the forum (there are some really helpful people here, and then there's me

). I'll be ordering the SOP very soon. Good luck with your breeding program, I'm sure you'll find what you need....And please, ask lots of questions! I want to learn more too

I'm slowly dispursing my other breeds to make more room for the Favs.

I too have dispursed most of my other breeds as well except for 4 of my brahma hens just for hatching purposes and eggs for our consumtion they are great mothers and plan on using them to hatch for me instead of dealing with an incubator, I hope we learn alot together on this breed.

Ok I got a new Faverolle today he is a 4month old blue salmon banty, and i want opinions on him he is a nice lil roo and i am wondering if he would be good enough to possibly use for show or breeding I needed a small faverolle for my granddaughter and he looked pretty nice in my opinion.
