Faverolles Thread

Why are people not using Sulmet for cocci? I know TSC does not carry it anymore but a lot of little feed stores will stock it if you ask. I use Sulmet for more than just cocci in my birds. It works pretty well for a number of bacterial issue also.

As stated a page or two back, it can cause liver damage if used too long term. Corrid works great, and doesn't do that... ;)

Ok I got a new Faverolle today he is a 4month old blue salmon banty, and i want opinions on him he is a nice lil roo and i am wondering if he would be good enough to possibly use for show or breeding I needed a small faverolle for my granddaughter and he looked pretty nice in my opinion.
He's cute!

How old is he? What strikes me right off the bat is that I don't see a beard on him, and he has pretty large wattles. He looks like he might be a little big for a bantam, but it's always hard to tell in pics. Blue salmon isn't a recognized variety, but can be shown as AOV, or used for showmanship. If he truly is beardless, and not just plucked right now, that's a DQ in conformation, but he can still be used for showmanship...

I noticed no beard also which kinda sucks for showing he was hatched in May, but like i said his whole purpose is for my granddaughter and if she uses him only for showmanship than i wouldnt mind keeping him around, and as for breeding him i should probably steer away from that right?

if your going breed from him use him one season and then cull hard for beards

you all sleep good knowing i do not breed i dont breed this breed i have a friend that dose and sense she new to breed i thought i ask for her because i know how rude people can be and sense i dont care what people thinks of me i ask ? that newbies are afraid to ask
HI,I don't care if you breed........ in any group there will be those who will give and give to those who wish help and answers and directions etc. and they all will include a few who are grouchy and intolerant. The specialness of any breed is what draws people to each of the relativily pure strains....It is human nature to tailor them to our whims,(not often for the better) but we can only hope that if you are not just breeding for your love of variety, ie, anything goes, then following some sort of standard allows that the breeds of tommarrow will resemble and fulfill why they are important today. Thou silkies come in several varieties, they are also soooo very popular and abundant to support change developements of those varieties.....where imo Faverolles are not. Their French heritage reminds me of the French aristocracy and their brocade coats and lacy shirts.....VBG.....so to be without would kinda not be a Faverolle.......

When seriously crossing for specific traits there is more to consider than outward appearances. meat production and type of meat, laying ability and frequency (some do and some don't lay year around, Favs can), egg numbers, size, cold and heat tolerance, foraging ability, can they breed naturally, broodiness, socialability...

So this is just some of my opinion on this discussion....
