Faverolles Thread

It sounds like your "integration" is going well, congrats :)

..... yeah, my Favs are the only ones laying right now too, oh - my little LB Cochin girl just started (almost forgot). I'm getting about 2 eggs daily out of about 8 laying age hens :( My French Marans have been so broody this summer I've hardly gotten anything out of them and they both have chicks right now.....

LOL I will start my waiting list in late December / early January for this next spring...between molting and broodies, I'm happy to get 2 eggs a day out of that coop right now! LOL Sucks to put them in the fridge though...

Sounds like I am lucky with my young layers I am getting 4-5 eggs from 6 hens. I have one hen who is molting now and she is an older buff orp she is going in the stew pot either tomorrow or the next day. Not tolerating her slow laying and she is an older girl anyway with a mean streak. The faverolles probably won't start laying here until this spring. But I can always hope they start laying this winter. Some of them still have a ton of growing to do though.

lol there for about a week i did not think so but now it looks like maybe 2 or 3 males out of 14 lol... and i am short males this year on my fav's of the ones i hatched earlier this year i have 5 hens 1 rooster... picked up one UofA rooster the same trip when i got these eggs... so now of the ones out of the brooder i have 6 hens and 3 roosters... i am for sure going to cull the 1st male i had and it is looking like his son is gonna be a cull as well so that leaves me with 1 possible roo so i was hoping for a bunch to pick from this hatch lol... ill pro try to get another batch of hatching eggs before the year is out...
Wow do you even have a male in there?

Well back to the discussion if Fav.males get along....I have opened the pen where my new boy was living by self and the big group area.....Welllll, its been several hours now and he's had several altercations with the girls who flew at him and openly put him in his place, (gee what did i do?) but the 3 Pasofino Brothers (about 8-10 mo???) look at him for a moment and act like he's no big deal, and walk on.... of course they are all young still, but the brothers are breeding and do care for the girls....

Re eggs, I have a few Barnys, Ameraucanas,Anconas, misc. and then the Favs.....The Favs are the only ones laying right now.......
Glad to hear it. I am going to open things up tomorrow. I let them mingle some last weekend and I was nervous to let them be together all day while I was at work, so I left the fencing up and put the younger ones back in their area. They see each other all day though.

So I will see how it goes this weekend!

I got kind of the same reaction from my older boy too. The girls were giving him and the other pullets a harder time. So weird! Amazing, but seems so foreign to me.
