Faverolles Thread

Oh and just wondering are faverolles big eaters or something? These guys have seriously barely come up for air all day. They have just eaten and eaten and eaten.

My three new Faverolle cockerels from Keesmom arrived yesterday! They are so gorgeous and HUGE compared to mine around the same age, super mellow and friendly too! I think they will do wonders for our flock, especially the lack-of-red problems we've bee having with our current flock daddy. Our one little mixed breed, half Faverolle and half looks-like-NH girl, has decided that all three of the new boys are her personal heating pads, and is snuggled up to them most always (when she isn't trying to roost in my hair, or falling asleep on the neck of my husbands guitar).

One of them has a wonky feather above his eye (mussed in the crate, i think) that gives him a perpetually vaguely-concerned expression. Its hilarious.

We are totally smitten with these boys, thank you keesmom!

Thanks for the advice. They did get sexed chicks, so I'm told she is a she. But she is getting a comb much faster than the other breeds. I wasn't sure if it was a breed thing, or if we might be stuck with a he that we'll have to get rid of since no boys allowed in our area.
It wouldn't hurt to ask the feed store about their Roo policy. Many will trade for another chick or store credit if you bought it there since *you didn't get the sex that was advertised*. granted there will always be a risk since sexing isn't 100 percent. Too young to make judgements on her....

Yeah, they like to eat! (kinda like me :) They're growing girls! I hadn't thought much about it until you asked, but I'm sure they eat more than my French Marans....

I think the combs and feet look ok - I just couldn't see them in the first pic! Her feet could be better, but I have a couple that are much worse

I've really enjoyed the pullets I got from Keesmom last October. They are nice sized girls indeed, and so friendly.... I can reach down and pick one up, she's always at me feet :)

Well, I just went out to lock up the girls for the night and when I opened the door to the broody tractor I found a chick, fully dried and fluffed, with it's eyes closed, outside the nest box, laying on it's side with it's little legs straight out...... It was still alive and shaking (shivering?). It started cheeping when I picked it up.....so, I put it back in the box, kinda stuffed it under a broody and pushed her up to cover it. Poor little thing. It was still cheeping when I closed up the tractor door.

Don't know what happened or if it will live.... I think it might have fallen out or got pushed out (the box is full of broody hens) and couldn't get back in, then it just got hypothermia. It's 40 degrees out there right now. I was out there 2 hours ago and didn't see anything

Hi Everyone, first time chicken owner here. I love this web site. I've learned so much. I have 3 Salmon Faverolles (17 days old) and 2 Bantam Cochins (18 days old). I'm pretty sure I have 1 male SF and 2 female SF. The Bantam Cochins I have no idea. I love them all, but I can only keep hens. I'll try to post some pictures. Does anyone has any ideas as to whether they are a boy or girl?

Hi there! I think you nailed it with the SFs, top pic is cockerel, next is pullet.......You won't know the Cochin gender until they're older, look for the comb getting larger/darker in color....

Thank you for answering. I hope both Cochins are girls. It's going to be sad to let the male SF go. Maybe the feed store will take him back. Is it to late to add another chick to the group?
