Faverolles Thread

Washed two more hens now the blue salmon boy is the only one left. I am hoping my show boxes get here in time for me to use them on Sunday. They should they are being shipped Monday. Is anyone else planning on showing favs this spring?

I won't be this year. Mine are still too small. They're getting big fast, but not that fast. In fact one was still just small enough to slip through the cage bars, and I found him roaming around the living room when we got back from Maine this morning. Little stinker.

They will be moving to larger, more secure quarters tomorrow.

My lil chicas got a bath today and I noticed the ones I think are males became even more obvious (the compact dark black wing feathers). I promise to post some photos tonight. Cloverleaf will let me hear it otherwise.

p.s. looks like a lot more hens than cocks but I am no expert.

I mentioned something about my Salmon Faverolles to my 7 year old yesterday and he said, "Your what? Your Favorite Samerolles?" So now that's what I'm calling them.

I put my Favorite Samerolle chicks "outside" for the first time tonight. They are in an insulated trailer coop, so I'm sure they will be fine. I'll worry just the same. They were used to having a light on them.

Well, I was planning on taking my cockerel to the PNPA show next month, but he's moulting right now and looks like poo - maybe he'll be all feathered up in time!!

yes, they are very hard to find with good qualities. the bantam that i have looks wonderful for her color and comb but she has too much foot feathering. she looks like they crossed a cochin into her bloodline at some point. wish i could get more of her eggs but the lady lost her hens shortly after i won the eggs.

First day at the park! Well, to celebrate most of them being 2 weeks I took them to the grassy knoll across the way. The babies were a big hit with young and older people alike. There are 2 hens that are growing rapidly. In an interesting twist the small "bantam" that hatched 3 days later than most of the others is feathering as rapidly as the oldest hens. Looks like there 2 boys for sure but the rest keep looking like ladies.

Due to my living arrangement I am looking for folks in the Eugene area to take them off my hands. My dream was to find someone's lawn close to my apartments to keep them myself but that may be a bit of a pipe dream. Oh well, they will hopefully go to good homes via craigslist soon enough.
