Faverolles Thread

I am delighted to see the interest in Faverolles too: I joined the Club eariler in the Fall and Leisha has been a jewel. I need to contact others in the directory and get some ideas on how to get a club meet going in my area. I have never, ever seen a live Faverolle except my own. Shows here are 90 % OEGB and Dutch. There is a show coming up in GA Feb 6th. I will show my Bantam Salmon Faverolle Pullet. While it will be a small show, there are usually a nice assortment of breeds both LF and bantam.

Faverolles are hands down the best all around fowl around. The personality is so pleasing and they are just very easy to keep and beautiful to have on your property.

As to the club. Please contact me if you have any questions or problems. I can sure try to help in that regard. I know what others mean, I have tried to contact some of those same people and Dick was the only one to reply. Lets all read those standards and work on getting this breed off the endangered list.

Nothing against hatcheries, but please search out breeders of quality birds in your efforts to preserve the breed, you will find there is a world of difference in hatchery and well bred birds.

I figured this would be a good place to ask about Faverolles as pets!

This spring I am looking into getting a pair or trio of Bantam hens, and trying to find a breed that is very quiet and friendly and doesn't mind being a lap chicken! I would also love a prolific layer! What can you all tell me about Faverolle personality, how do they compare to Bantam Cochins or Silkies as far as personality and eggs?

Also, does anyone here breed Faverolle in colors other than salmon and blue salmon?

Hey candachan,
Faverolles are very docile, quite, and friendly birds. Mine are fantastic layers even now in the winter. I would defently suggest getting some hen.

Mahogany, Black, Mottled, Whites and Blues are the colors I remember having and seen a few years back.

Personality, each one of them have their own but most of them are quiet and very laid back! They are better egg layers, in the first two years I've had them, they laid every day for me.

Speaking of Mahoganies, I was looking at Sand Hill's on-line catalog yesterday, and they won't be selling any of the Mahoganies in 2010. Didn't someone say they'd gotten some from there and they all died? I think they are really pretty and wouldn't mind having some, but am going to start with the Salmons (one thing at a time, LOL!).

I did and it was a failure to get Mahoganies. Lost every one of them before they reached laying age. Failure to thrive is a big issue for them. Get Mahoganies from someone else than Sandhill. I bet they had problems with them for the last several years. Probably too much inbreeding going on. Dont buy the Salmon Favs there either! They are ok but they don't seem to thrive too well and the colors on them are wrong. Some would be so bleached out or too dark of a Salmon color.

Get any Faverolles from the breeders in here, not from hatcheries. IMO!

That is a shame!

Do you know of anyone in particular here that breeds non-salmon colors? I'd much prefer to buy from a small breeder here, would love to get some SQ animals.

As far as I remember, Gayle had white and blues. But she does not have them anymore.

The Mahoganies, I do not know but there was one on Ebay but I have NO idea of their reputation.
