Faverolles Thread

That is possible. I gave Mike Stapish some blacks years ago. He did hatch one white male. He asked me if I wanted him and I said yes. He gave him to me at the last Crossroad show. This is the bird I used to pull my white line back. If the bird does turn out white and you don't want him/her keep me in mind.

As Dick said yes it is possible. Did you breed black to black or what?

I did have a small quad of Black bantams that the owner bought it directly from Mike Stapish and it did produce a chick that was black but had white primary wing feathers. It was odd but that chick went to a loving family that had a farm. I didn't know you could use that chick for White Faverolle bantam project.

Here's the chick in question.

Some baby pics. The down has a greyish cast so I assumed it was a splash.

Here are some pics from today. It may still be a splash but looks rather white so far. I have other splashes (one very young pullet and one hen) and they don't look this white.

So I guess we'll wait to see how this one feathers out. If it is a white you can certainly have him/her.

I have a question for those of you who have owned Faverolles for several years. Approximately how many eggs per week do your hens lay? I have only had 3 hens far and so not much data from my birds. The hen I have now averages about 5 per week. The two hatchery hens that I had - one only laid about 3 per week and the other 4-5. Also, have you noticed a drop in production during the winter? The hen I now have has not slowed down at all and I wondered if this was the norm.

How old was it before you sold it?? Many times in black bantam Ameraucanas the first primaries will be white, and will moult out by the time they get their adult plumage. It's normal.

It was a teenager.

Tried to get a hold of the new owner but never got back with me with updates.

this was roughly four years ago. He was jet black with his teenager feathers, baby fuzz all gone. I believe he was only six months old when sold. Had the beard and five toes on each foot as well. Perfect as a Faverolle can be but those white primary feathers I thought it was a fluke and should not be used for breeding. The lady was planning to take him for her mixed flock of bantams and LF on her farm. So there would be no purebred Favs to worry about.

Hmmm...I think the Ams lose them well before that...if I can remember from hatching last year correctly...

I have just started raising chickens about 5 months ago. Well I have just recently decided to add to our flock and I am soooo excited. I have done a lot of reading on different chickens and I am very excited about Faverolles. I have checked out different hatcheries but, I also would like to know who on here breeds and sells them. That way I can decide where to get our new babies from. Does anyone on here no who all breeds and sells faverolles on here?

Thanks,
Michelle:p
