Faverolles Thread

Hi everyone! I'm fairly new to faverolles and I have a few questions. I got a hand full of Salmons from a hatchery a few months back and being that they were hatchery birds and I really had my heart set on private stock I finally got some eggs from ebay and hatched some lovely chicks. One of the chicks was a little lighter in color than the rest and I didn't pay much attention to it. Well, now she is completely white without a hint if color at all.

Is this normal?

What will happen to chicks produced from this pullet and a salmon rooster?

Should she be eliminated from the flock and just moved to my pet flock?

I have a recessive white faverolle that came out of Salmon parents. I haven't tested his eggs yet, but he should breed salmon babies. He has some feathers that are salmon colored on his back, shoulders, and tail. You have to really look for them. Possibly this is the case with your bird?

She could be a mix. Does she have 5 toes on each foot, a beard, and feathered feet?

Or maybe the breeder owned white faverolles as well?

Good luck with your chick. :)

She's correct in all aspects except she's white. She looked like the rest when she hatched, just lighter. In the last few weeks she's gotten lighter and lighter. As she feathers out more its white. I suppose she could have salmon colors underneath. I will have to look.

I live in Athens, GA and am looking for a roo. I have heard so many wonderful things about the Faverolles roos that I simply have to have one! I've got a toddler and need a roo I can trust right off the bat. I'm having so much trouble finding a fella that now I've expanded my search to include a girl or two. I'd prefer a chick (my current pullets [Speckled Sussex, SL Wyandottes, Araucanas and a Buff Orphington] are 3 weeks old), but will take an older boy. We live in the country on 7 acres and are redoing a cow shed for their house (it's rather roomy and I'm jealous!). They will be my pets and will sit in my lap. ~:> ANY help would be appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!! Kaye (PS--I don't want bantams).

I have 3 or 4 (the "girl" is suddenly getting dark plumage) baby boys, but I'm in San Francisco area. There are more & more Faverolles around, so I bet one finds you soon.

A LF Fav roo is an awfully heavy lap chicken! I have a bantam roo with my nig girls, and they love him. Besides, no matter what the breed, you have to be careful with a full grown rooster and any child. There is NO roo you cab trust right off the bat, every time. It's simply the way they are. A large fowl rooster will meet your baby eye to eye, and could easily knock him/her down.

What's the reason you need a LF roo?

Hello,

I have a bantam chick that has spaddled legs (sp?) one of the legs is slideing out from uderneth her i am thinking band ads would help this to bring it back to normal postian

I just fixed that with two chicks - I was delighted it worked! Just make sure that their legs are only as far apart as the "pad" of the band-aid. I also cut the band-aid in half lengthwise. It's definitely a two-person job, though. Good Luck!

I have to agree. There are bad apples in EVERY breed and I have had an aggressive fav roo in the past. The change can happen suddenly too, fine one day then chasing the kids the next.

Hi I have a Salmon Faverolles Rooster I bought last summer at a chicken swap. and a hen I recently bought. I would like to know what you all think of them. Of course I love them:D But would like a little input. Also I'm not sure if its the time of year ? But my rooster is getting a bit of an attitude when I go to check eggs. I pick him up every day and he's always super loving but lately has an attitude. Here are a few recent pics pics them . Thanks!
