Dick, they came from Lund Poultry. The pullet to the left in the first picture is particularly nice. First bird I've had that has tempted me to start showing. The cockerel has enameled ear lobes. How difficult is that to breed out?

A bunch of us have birds with enameled earlobes, so you are not alone!Dick, they came from Lund Poultry. The pullet to the left in the first picture is particularly nice. I'd probably growl too if I had to do that every day!I have a couple pullets that growls until they lay their egg for the day. It is hillarious!!!!!!!!!!!!
HI Kivi, I think it all depends on numbers and the other birds in your flock. There are some breeds that are naturally aggressive and dominant. If you can have more hens, 3 LF Favs may do well. I wouldn't have just one. Like breeds often hang together. It is also a good practice to pick your birds up often to know if someone has good weight. Sometimes its intimidation, parasites or ? It is true that some can be a bit dominant but in general they are known to be docile as a breed.Hello everyone.I just found this thread and it looks like I have some reading to do. lol. There are some lovely birds posted here. I am enjoying the pics. This breed has interested me since I saw a picture of them on the internet a year ago. I got a mixed flock back in May (my first ever) of 6 girls. I read this breed does not fair well in a mixed flock so I didn't get any. I read they are so docile they get picked on too much by the other birds then I read they get agressive if put in a mxed flock. Is either true? Oh I have a pullet named Andromeda too. We shortend her name to Drama because as a chick everything seemed to be drama to her. lol. She is much quieter and calmer now but the name stuck![]()

I totally doubt if a hatchery has mahogany. Probably just a really really dark salmon, is what they are.I was going to shorten her name to Annie but Drama just fit her better. I also have an EE named Bunny and a Cokckoo Maran Named Marsala. That was my husbands doing.![]()
I tried to pick docile breeds for my flock. An EE, a Cockoo Maran, A Golden Comet, A BA, a Buff Orp an a SL Wyndotte who is at the top of the pecking order. I also will be getting 2 maybe 3 Barred Rocks at the end of the month with one being a rooster. I know no one can acurately predict how exceptance of new birds into a flock will go but with that said those with past experience with mixed flocks and this breed may be able to spot possible problems and help. Soooo opinions, anyone see problems with this mix and adding some favorelles? And how many should I add for a nicer transistion? I really dont want to add more than 5 or 6. I'm still pretty new to chickens so sorry if I am being a pest.Next question Where can I find them? I know hatcheries have some but what would I really be getting. Sandhill has some and mahogany(sp?) ones too whick I have never seen but I really don't want to order 25 straight run chicks. lol. I babbling sorry. shutting up now.![]()

I have had faverolles that lay from a pretty dark brown to light brown tinted eggs. It varies bird to bird it isn't even a line thing. Faverolles are supposed to have red earlobes and many have enameling on their ear lobes (haven't looked at the girls I have yet will tomorrow) From talking to Dick he said that birds that lay the darker eggs often have red earlobes free of enameling.
