Faverolles Thread

HI all,
I hatched out three Faverolles chicks that are crossed with a Welsummer hen. Since they are a mix I know the coloring will not be pure. However, can you look at the pic and tell me if you think they are all three pullets? One of them has slightly darker feathering than the other two. None of them hatched with the welsummer striping (they were all solid yellow). Thanks in advance!

This is Nina, one of two with a lot of black bleeding into her coloring. I got them from Baxter here in WA, but I know they get theirs from a hatchery someplace. Unsure which one.

Despite the non-standard coloring, I do think the black ends on the feathers are neat looking. Being for eggs and pets we have no intention of breeding these, so no worries about that part of things.

In the background you can see Etta. She has less black overall, but her beard is almost totally black. She's a hoot to look at :)

As far as personality goes, they are very sweet. P.J. (not pictured) is our most docile by far. She's the first to greet me every morning and if I lay down in the grass, she always comes over to inspect me and hang around. Can't comment on eggs yet. Only 1 hen laying yet. Light brown eggs, thick shells, but still pullet size.

When it's time for more birds, I will be looking for a breeder with birds that are more true-to-form.
I think the spotting is pretty too….I am not sure where so much of the odd coloration that we have seen over the last 3 years is coming from but would be interesting to ask where Baxters gets their chicks…..Allot around my area come from Privit hatchery. The couple i got were not colored well and were more apaloosy like than yours. didn't keep.

I'm still hoping but fading. I sure hope he shows up. I'm kind of afraid he will be gone for weeks or months, show up and be wild. I'll accept him back any way he wants to get back but I will probably have to quarantine him, won't I?
HE'S BACK!!!!!
I don't know where he's been but he's hungry and thirsty and in the house! My husband found him under the coop but I don't think he's been there all this time. He put him in the chicken door while I was inside and asked if that was him but I only saw two white birds and told him that it was one of my EE hens and then I turned around and saw 3 white chickens and when I picked him up he was very calm. Not the behavior of my EE hens. I started crying and told my husband that he was right, it was Prince. I'm so glad he's back I'd let him sleep with me except I already have a 2# Yorkie who sleeps with me.

I just counted how long he's been gone, I had quit counting. It's 6 days he's been gone. I am so happy he's back.

Oh, thank you. He was singing to me tonight while I held him watching tv. My daughter caught me with her phone camera getting kisses on the lips from him. He's so terribly sweet. I'm so glad he's back. He's sleeping in the kitchen floor right now.
