I believe a breeder told me what Henry said...they should be caged a couple of weeks before show. Seems like she said something about the 2 week "pre-show quarantine" was to make sure the bird wasn't masking any illness. I guess the stress of being caged alone would definitely bring out any hidden issues that some owners might never have noticed.

I have heard some show birds never touch the ground! But there is now way for me to do that here I think it all depends on what your setup is I have no way to individually cage. My birds so they are just going to be locked in the freshly bedded coop after being bathed. I actually only have one cage and a cat carrier and the cage is a dog crate used for our puppy.

Henry, just PLEASE be careful at the show. Be sure and take all the necessary precautions when you get back home with your birds. You really should be prepared to go through a post-show quarantine with your show birds. I know for a fact, as do most other folks, that sickness and disease can be tracked back to your farm from a show. And we here at BYC would really hate to see your birds get sick.

Got my new pair a I suspected I like the cockeral much bettern then the pullet. If you keep your chickens in cages do you have to trim their beaks because these guys look diffrent from my birds who get to go forage in runs? There leg feathering is better for abviouse reasons. The cockeral comb and color are really good his he is bigger then I would prefer but he can get some of the trapazoidalness I want from Nikki's hens overal they make me apreaciate how darn good Nikki's birds really are espeacially the coloring on her pullets! The girls coloring is a bit smudged but at least they got here alright. The girls beard is very nice and her foot feathering and comb are alright to I feel comfortable using her as an outcross until I get some more pullets mature from my hatches. So overal I am really happy and the cockeral coloring is to die for he has a big comb that I am little worried about in the cold but I will put vasaline on it. Overall I think both birds compliment Nikki's birds well and the outcross should produce nice chicks.
