Faverolles Thread

Here is a mini update from me. I am keeping three groups of faverolles bantams they will overwinter together though. Group #1 4 salmons hens and a salmon cock I am getting from Dick when I head up North. Group #2 Black Pair from Leisha Comer and 3 Splash pullets! (I may hatch a few blues to) and then a small group of the best lavender splits I hatch from the lavender D'uccles male and black female probably only a trio or two pairs.

Chickie'sMoma :

i just saw an auction for some of those lav and black orps. they did look like they are supposed to with the exception of the leg color-looks grayish.

Henry, i've decided on some names for the boys-the Hat Trick boy has been officially named Apollo since he is such a bright and shinny boy! btw, my dad saw him the other day and was impressed with him!

my dad isn't much of a fan of roosters since my mom is a collector of the 'maintenance free' type and those keep multiplying!

the Oxley boy reminded me of my grandfather so now he's become Moses or Mosey as was a nickname he had. he's such a calm and beautiful boy! my cochin boy seems to enjoy his company too! he's been hanging close to Chloe and when one of the other girls was trying to pic on her at the food dish he would kindly give her his spot and watch the other girls for picking behavior. i'm hoping Kiva will give into his advances and not peck and run from him when he comes close.

i've definitely noticed a size difference between those two boys and the one i got from Chickn. her boy, albeit older, has more size to him. his girl is a little bigger too! i've also noticed that the faverolles rooster crow seems quite compared to my cochin's, with all 4 boys occasionally crowing together for a few minutes it is a noticeable difference. i may be able to sound proof my outdoor coop so the early morning sounds will not carry outside it and they could keep cooler during our warmer days. now i just need to see about some tall plants to help buffer the sounds around the coop to lessen the chances of a neighbor complaint of sound. they love seeing the chickens and occasionally the roos, but they just don't like the early morning crowing when they heard it last year.

The Oxley boy probably misses the Oxley girl she is still enjoying her life on sin here don't tell him though and she is going to get some new boyfriends soon

They sound like they are enjoying themselves and you are enjoying them which is great. Yes birds from this line are smaller then my other salmons. Ya three was much louder then one! Now I am going back up to 3-4 ahh. The Oxley boy should still feather out and get even better looking he is a very nice boy.

If you think they're loud, just wait until you have several LF.

Any idea yet when you'll be heading this way?

he has lots of pretty girls to help look after so he may be too distracted to even think of her!

the pair i got from Chickn seems to produce wonderfully clean looking and larger girls so i think i can help improve any of his offspring by crossing him with any girls i get from that pair. he has such clean looking color that it should work.

i can agree with you about the whole vocabulary thing mentioned earlier with the faverolles and their chirps, giggles, coos and any other sounds they seem to make. having more around now really makes me see that.

well i guess it wont take to long for me to know what the sexes of the 6 remaining are, i beleave the roos get dark quite soon. If the one dead one was my roo, i should be able to find another locally, probably nicer to.
