Hi, I've been following this thread a bit. Now I have 5 favorelle chicks that hatch on Monday. 5 out of 6 shipped eggs!

How soon can I tell the different genders and what are the best markers?

I would say feather color will give you a pretty good idea in the first 3 weeks but not right away many females get dark primary wing feathers and when the upper wing feathers come in you can tell they are female. Then after that the combs will start to reden and you will be able to tell. The females wings will be salmon or light brown in color and the males wings will be black.

Glad you have some faves they are great where did you get eggs?

Do these two still look like hatchery quality? They're filling out, & smoothing out, with age. Hatched 9/11/09 so now 8 months old... their eggs are finally getting to normal LF size.
(I hope this isn't too big... going back to resize it now)

Thanks

Not bad for hatchery quality but the plumage is somewhat odd in coloring and pattern. The hen in the back is a bit too long in body and she does have some grey tint to her beard.
