Faverolles Thread

I am going to clean my Brinsea out tonight and tomorrow I will set the BBS bantam eggs I have 7 now so there should hopefully be 8 or 9 eggs.

As you can see and several people have commented on the last pullet is almost lavender looking. Another one of the pullets has slight lacing as if she were light blue but I am sure she is splash.

Seeing your pictures really does help soooo much. As I'm sure you know, you don't get much when you google Splash Faverolles. I am now pretty certain that mine is indeed a splash.
I've collected 2 eggs now to go into the incubator. I figure I will set those and then see if my cochins are interested in sitting on some as well... can't hurt to keep trying.

Now that lavender will be introduced to faverolles here is one way to determine if a bird is lavender or splash (blue).

Look at the feather shafts of the wings and tail. If the shafts on the top (outer side) of the feather are light and the shafts on the bottom (under side) are dark it is a lavender. If the shafts top and bottom are the same color, or a mix of light and dark, the bird has blue (splash, blue, lavender splash or lavender blue).

I hope that made sense.

Hey guys! I'm Baaaackkk! I had to go back through my email to find my original password... gotta change it to something I will remember. I have been signed out for a couple of weeks and was too busy to fix it. I have 8 lovely chicks from my eggs I got from Dick... I also now have a SQ? pair of white silkies I got at the show this past weekend. I had to trim the feathers from around the pullets head so she could see! Poor silly thing would just sit there and do nothing- not even eat! I caught it early though so she seems to be doing fine now. As for the chicks, out of 11 eggs I had 8 hatch (started w/ 12 eggs but the buff orp ate one- I gave her to my neighbors!), and when I checked the eggs I found that all had been fertile, the 3 that didn't hatch were quiters. My LF blue cochin has proven to be a wonderful mom so far, and the chicks seem very hardy. The feathers have started coming in on the wings and so far only 2 have any indication that they might be roos... I will post pics as soon as I get around to it. All of the babies have 5 toes w/ only 2 showing less than ideal separation, and all of them have indications of great beards. Now all I have to do is wait for them to grow up!

I know she is a splash people were just saying here coloring is very close to lavender. I just wanted to demonstrate that splash can come in many shades both solid powder blue and splotchy. She is a very different color from my Lavender D'uccles.
