I'm curious, do the Hattrick hens lay off white to white eggs?

they've been nearly white looking. but you can still tell they are tinted when i put them beside one of my white eggs. almost as light as my cochin's and silkie cross eggs. i will see if i can get a comparison pic tomorrow.

I love Langshans! The blues must be stunning.

I have a black and a white, and some Sussex X Langshan project chicks. I suppose I should keep a pair of those along with the faverolle project chicks.

But I would LOVE some blue Langshans.

The last show I went to was a Langshan meet the birds were stunning mostly blacks with a few whites.

hehe! and i've got a chick! here's hoping more will pop out over night! congrats on yours!

Henry, the hen (Hera) i have from Chickn lays a darker and larger egg than the Hat Trick girls i got from you. Kiva, Kiera and Chloe all lay that same darker egg too, but i've noticed they seem slightly speckled with white.

Great I am so glad your hatching

Have any babies out yet?

YES!!! One. The pipper from yesterday. 4 left to go. But remembered that today is just day 21 not yesterday. Put them on LD on 17 with 18d BOs. Who also just started hatching today. 5 of those out of 12 so far.

My bantam eggs are much lighter. Faverolles are suppose to lay a tinted egg. I prefer them darker, it should keep the earlobes red. Look at your birds, what color are their earlobes. Should be brigt red with no white enamel. Years ago my bantams had enameled earlobes. I went to a show and an old Rhode Island breeder set me straight. I told him about the problem I was having with the earlobes and he told me it was because my hens were laying white eggs. Sure enough, when I got home from the show I went to pick up eggs and all of my hens were laying pure white eggs except for one hen who was laying a tinted brown egg. I concentrated on that one hen, bred her to my darkest male and made sure I kept all her daughters. It took me a few years but I finally got it turned around.

A few of my hens have the enameling on their lobes but they are mostly red. It was a bigger problem with the hens I had before. I guess I will select for darker eggs and redder earlobes or maybe the cockerel I am getting from you can do away with the enameling on my next generation.
