I like the black cockerel. Is he bantam or LF? Is that one of my blue girls?

He's a bantam hatched out of the eggs Henry brought up this summer. I hatched one other black boy but he's definitely not a keeper. There was one black pullet but I lost her.

The blue girl in the background is one David sent. He hatched her from the group he got from you.

The first two pics of the black boy....is he an F1 cross you made with the sussex? Your F1 crossed pullet looks great.
Dick

The black boy is a bantam. Here are a couple of the F1 roos. They definitely take after the Sussex in size.

I would breed the sussex looking boy back to the black hens you got from me. Do you have any more pictures of your F1 pullets?

Glad you got something worth while out of those eggs . That boy is probably from the black male I had with either the black hen or your blue hen. He certainly has the wingset that black male had but a bigger beard. Is he a big boy for a bantam?

Thought since the blacks had come up again that I'd post a couple pics of a few kidos I have growing out now. I spoke with Henry the other day and promised to post pics of my black mottled girl. I know theres not a huge demand for them, but I also know Dick worked with this color as did a couple of others on the list. I cant give up on this lil pullet just yet due to fact shes sooo heavy in beard and has PERECT toes. I desperately need advice from the experts on how to incorp this girl in my program or if it's simply a waste of time. I also have a blue pullet whos not near as nice, but is BLUE

So, any input from you all would be most appreciated. Peter, Cindy, Henry...and everyone else, I hope all is well and you all have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving. PS. Thanks so much for putting up with my speratic postings...I hope to be back in full action very soon!

In Light,
Misty

She has a very nice beard Misty. I was thinking back to my hatch out of the blues and blacks I had from Leisha the hatch was taken by a fox but I had one blue pullet who had mottleing like that on her face and neck. Maybe it will molt out not sure what the genes are that are in play just thought I would add that.

Henry

Thanks Henry. Maybe er adult feathers will come in solid black as the mottling is only on head mostly. She was actually a surprise, genetics behind her are blue S, salmon, splash, black, sooo I'm not sure how/where the mott came into play. That's why I'm asking you all to help me out here and how, if at all, I can use her to further my program. Like you, I was devistated to have almost and entire flock massicured. Starting over is always hard and takes so much time and patience

I'll keep trucking along though..."chin up" is just how it is I guess...lol.

Hmm well I know the regular motteling gene works kinda like Lavender if you understand that so her offspring would be split to mottled. As long as you bred them to "pure" black lines for several generations you shouldn't have problems with mottled chicks showing up. Where you would get more mottled are breeding her offspring to her or breeding her offspring together.

I plan to start again with LF later on maybe after college when I have more time.

Henry
