Touchè!
Now that y'all have helped me come to my senses.... if she gets one it will be Mr Droopy eye, who has a subperfect comb & a slightly droopy eyelid (probably from the foxtail I pulled out when he was a chick), and he won't come any closer than the driveway IF he comes back. I will warn her about chicks she raises being exposed via their mom.

PS. Peter... GQ actually bit Colin, not just a peck. To his credit, he had just been snagged out of the air when he refused to be picked up for a hug. Colin is 15, so not in danger.

PPS. Back to Marek's; how many people here do vaccinate for Marek's? How about Mycoplasma? I know someone who said her birds got sicker with the Myco vaccine than they did with the disease, and were still considered carriers.

Laurie, sounds like helicopter spin time then.

vaccines, the biggest problem is that most poultry vaccines are a live virus and thus u have reactions to it.
peter

I got a little to strong with the helicopter spin once and we will just say I had a bird in two pieces. But at least it was dead very very dead.

Mr Sam!! Welcome to the faverolles thread. Glad you stopped in!! Surely YOU could get a good deal on something around here!!

The pic of Johnathans's cockerell does him no justice. He is gorgeous and much bigger than I have seen in he very few others I had seen previously!!

Great Johnathan!! We can't wait. I actually haven't spoken with Keith lately. Hopefully by the time your hens are cooperating he won't get sent on a overseas expedition that are so common for him. Talk about world traveler!! I wanna work for him!!

Thanks for the comment Jonathan. Yes, if you can put pictures up on your female Peter and I will gladly comment. To bring up "double mating" again, what got me thinking about doing it with Faverolles is the book by Grant Brereton. "21st Century Poultry Breeding". He mainly talks about wyandottes. But I feel it could also be applied to Faverolles. This book is what got me thinking about applying it to Faverolles. Again as he states it could take you four years to create the separate lines. On page 28 he talks about"Double Mating". If you can get the book get it, I think you will find it very interesting. Plenty of colored pictures.
Dick

Dick, I just ordered that book this morning. Can't wait to get it.

Sam

Hey Sam,
Welcome aboard. But no their lavenders, not self blue. Lavender breeds true, blue doesn't. I know the old timers don't want to hear this but times need to change. Yes, I did read the article in the Poultry Press and it brings up a good point. Quoted from the article, silver penciled wyandottes is the same as dark brahmas and birchen old english is very similar to gray japanese. Why is lavender orpington and self blue d'Anvers any different than dark brahmas and silver penciled wyandottes? No one has answered that question yet.
I feel in the old days if a person created a new variety they could call it what they want. It must have been less political in those days.
